Many kinds of discrimination are present in our society
today. However, there is one group of people who are the victims of extreme hatred and violence every day. Crimes
against people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered (LGBT) are the only category of crime that is rising.
Abuse of LGBTs (both verbal and physical) has become permissable by society, and things are not getting better.
The term "homophobia" was created by George Weinbert in 1972 as "the dread of being
in close quarters with homosexuals".
The Kinsey Institute, in the News Report on Sex, defines homophobia as "fear, dislike,
or hatred of homosexuals".
